Today marks the anniversary of the publication of the first issue of the eponymously titled Superman comic in 1939.
To this date, comics had been anthologies featuring various characters in short stories, but the Superman comic was the first book dedicated entirely to the adventures of a single character.
Superman had made his debut, as the headline character, in Action Comics a year earlier but had quickly proven himself to be a runaway phenomenon that would change the face of the comic book industry... paving the way for the geek positive landscape we live in today.
