The Legion of Super-Heroes, the greatest sci-fi team in the DC Comics Universe, is finally returning this September.
They're first (re)appearance is due to be in next month's
Superman 2026 Annual: Year One Thousand, by Joshua Williamson and Eddy Barrows. The new series then launches, for reals, in September with Williamson writing and Hayden Sherman on art duties.
Having been hardcore into the
Legion during the Paul Levitz run of the 1980s (
which, in my opinion, has never been equalled), my pull-list has been missing a
Legion title for years.
This 'jumping-on point for new readers', as the latest addition to DC's
Next Level initiative, is described thus on the
official DC Comics blog:
"One thousand years after the Last Son of Krypton’s rocket crashed on the Kent Farm comes a new future inspired by the Man of Tomorrow!
"But this new future is in danger! Superheroes are outlawed! Deadly enforcers known as the Persuaders keep the populace of the United Planets in check! Worlds are at war! And this dark tomorrow’s last glimmer of hope, R.J. Brande, has been brutally murdered.
"Can the mysterious Brainiac 1 of 5 solve Brande’s murder? To restore hope to the universe, he must assemble a legion of gifted young rebels from across the cosmos! But they are scattered across the universe!"
Let's hope, if this is a decent book (
and Williamson has form), that the series runs and runs and isn't just a six or 12 issue series. The
Legion deserves better.
