Masters of The Universe sees director Travis Knight bring the legendary franchise back to the big screen in this epic live-action adventure.
After being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) back to Eternia where he discovers his home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor (Jared Leto).
To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), and embrace his true destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe.
While I would never call myself a huge MotU fan, I remember watching it as a teen. I did enjoy the new Kevin Smith revival on Netflix and I am looking forward to this one.
I didn't even watch the cartoon when it was originally on TV, I think I was the wrong age, nor - as I've mentioned before - did I collect the action figures. I simply absorbed the characters and their general stories by osmosis.
It's definitely been the recent revivals (both animated and in comics) that have truly piqued my interest. I've really come to appreciate the sword & sorcery/sword & planet tropes of the franchise.
I grew up playing with MotU toys, though to be honest I don't remember too much about the original series though I know I watched it and She-Ra, Princess of Power. I really enjoyed the early 2000's version that aired on Cartoon Network. It still holds up today. The recent Netflix miniseries have been great. Jared Leto's involvement with this version has me hesitant, but I still think it looks like it could be a lot of fun.
My pop culture Odyssey: a slice of super-powered geek life with heavy emphasis on pulp adventure, superheroes, comic books, westerns, horror, sci-fi, giant monsters, zombies etc

ReplyDeleteI'm really hoping it is fun. But, yes, I fear that may hinge on the Jared Leto of it all. Fingers crossed!
