Miniatures Make My Wife Happy

I'm delighted - and proud - to report that Rachel's occasional blog, Miniatures Make Me Happy, has awoken from hibernation.

The primary focus of the blog is Rachel's obsession with decorating 1:12 scale dolls houses.

She kicked off with a pre-Christmas post about the quality Christmas tree she had purchased (and that we used in our digital card this year).

This was then followed by a trio of posts about her current "big project": a modern Malibu Beach House (pictured above). Over the holidays, with some help from her talented dad and no help from clumsy me, Rachel has painted the accent colour on the outside of the house, scratch-built a statement chandelier, and started on the flooring.

The latest mini-project involves assembling the shower unit (which included several hilarious superglue-related moments), but requires the purchase of some tiles to complete.

Now the holidays are over and Rachel is back to work I hope she can still make time to squeeze in more miniature work, as I know how satisfied it makes her feel.

With my back getting better, allowing me to resume the majority of the chores I used to do and Rachel not having to wait on me quite so much, that should free up some time for her in her manic schedule.

  1. Awesome! I believe that a significant portion of my love of gaming is rooted in a lifelong love of seeing things in miniature. (Whenever my family visited a historical landmark, it was the scale model/diorama that always got the most attention from me...!) Sometimes I think that I'm missing out by not jumping on the 1:12 revolution in action figures (especially as I continue to explore gaming with my toys), since its crossover with the dollhouse hobby makes so much amazing stuff available. Maybe in a later phase of life, I suppose...? (I'm pretty firmly riding the 3 3/4" train at this point. And...uh, yeah, I realize that sounds like an immature euphemism...)

    1. That so echoes my own fascination. I actually have a dolls house scale tower - built my Rachel's dad for my 40th - which I have yet to really tackle (besides hording assorted bits, both Medieval dolls house fixtures and fittings and 6" action figure material) that I guess I ought to add to my list of projects to tackle before I turn 60 (later this year).

When it comes to action figures my collection is predominantly 5.5" (Doctor Who) and 6" (random assortment of Star Wars, superheroes and miscellaneous others). So these all work very well with dolls house furniture.

    2. If you're taking votes on it...yes! You should tackle that this year!😅

    3. I've been having thoughts - and discussions with Rachel's day, so hopefully I can get my act together.
